Weekly Update 2/6 -2/10

Welcome back from our 3-day snowy weekend!!

Important Information:

Field Trip: THIS FRDAY! Students need to:

  • Bring a sack lunch OR let a Tiger teacher know ASAP if they need a lunch from school
  • Bring a pen/pencil
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes
  • Bring a good ATTITUDE!
  • **bring electronic devices and money AT YOUR OWN RISK!!**

We will be leaving the school around 8:40 AM and we will return to school by 2:30 PM.

Weekly Update 1/30/12 – 2/3/12

Important Information

The field trip to the Denver Museum is NEXT FRIDAY 2/10/12. If you volunteered to be a chaperone, you can expect a letter home by Wednesday detailing what to expect etc. Students will need to bring a sack lunch and a pen/pencil on the day of the field trip. If your student needs a school lunch please have him/her contact a team teacher ASAP.

Parent Teacher Conferences:

Wednesday February 15th – DROP -IN Conferences from 1:30 – 7:00 PM in room 35 (Mrs. Dudley’s room)

Thursday February 16th – SCHEDULED conferences: please email or call Mrs. Dudley to schedule one on these (natalie.dudley@thompsonschools.org); we will also be calling to set up appointment times. Time slots will be 15 minutes from 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM.

No school on Friday 2/17 or Monday 2/20

Curriculum Foci:

Language Arts: root words (quiz Friday), argument in literature/case file assignment; writing homework due Wednesday; new homework due NEXT Wednesday

Social Studies: Thinking like a political scientist and thinking like an economist

Science: Characteristics and classification of living things

Math: PoU; 4th – solving equations

Weekly Update 1/23/12 – 1/27/12

Important Information

Field Trip!!! We are going to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science Friday February 10, 2012. Make sure your student has turned in the $10 fee and permission slip. If your student needs a lunch he or she needs to let Mrs. Dudley know ASAP!

Substitute Information: please chat with your student about the appropriate behavior for guest teachers. Due to a district training several Tiger teachers will be in and out in the next few weeks. We appreciate your support with this.

Parent Teacher Conferences

On Wednesday February 15th and Thursday February 16th we will be having parent teacher conferences. As always, your student is welcome and encouraged to attend with you.

 

Wednesday 2/15/12 conferences will be DROP in from 1:30 – 7:00 PM

Thursday 2/16/12 conferences will be scheduled from 8:30 AM – 7:00 PM.

All conferences will be in room 35. If you would like to schedule a conference please email Mrs. Dudley at natalie.dudley@thompsonschools.org with some possible times and she will get back to you ASAP. If you prefer to leave a voicemail you can call 613-7363.

There will be NO school on Friday 2/17 or Monday 2/20.

Weekly Update 1/17-1/20

Hope you all had an enjoyable 3-day weekend.

Important News:

  • New Language Arts homework due this Wednesday! (one expository paragraph about one aspect of winter break)
  • Field Trip: please try to have all permission slips and the $10 fee turned into a tiger team teacher by this Friday.
  • Supplies: please help ensure that your student comes prepared to school with writing utensils!

Curriculum Foci:

Language Arts: creating a stance; reading non-fiction; compound sentences

Math: Power of U and 4th hour: circles and angles

Science: Thinking like a scientist; hypothesis, graphing, results, and writing a conclusion

Social Studies: Thinking like a geographer/historian

Weekly Update 1/9/12 – 1/13/12

Welcome Back!!! Happy New Year!

Important Announcements:

Upcoming field trip: The Tiger team will be traveling to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on Friday February 10th.  Students will be bringing home a permission slip this WEDNESDAY. Please return it with the money as soon as possible.

No school in observance of Martin Luther King Junior Day on Monday January 16, 2012.

Supplies: please make sure your students have the necessary supplies for each class! Many kids need pencils and pens. Also, some students need to bring in fine money to the library!

Curriculum Information:

Language Arts: New unit: Argumentative Writing and story analysis; library day this THURSDAY; new homework assignment Wednesday. Instead of reading homework, we will now be doing weekly writing homework. New information will be sent home with students this Wednesday.

Social Studies: How to think like a social scientist. (New class for students)

Science: Thinking like a scientist (new class for students)

Math: 1st and 2nd hour – Power of U pilot program; 4th hour: comparing expressions and circles

Weekly Update 12/19-12/23

Welcome to the last school week of 2011!

Important Anouncements:

  • Team Celebration this THURSDAY! All students without missing assignments will be watching the movie Elf. Make sure students have permission slips returned ASAP!
  • We will be selling hot chocolate and French Vanilla Cappuccinos for $1.00 during the movie!
  • End of second quarter assembly is on Thursday. 7th graders are invited to wear elf hats as part of our Santa’s workshop celebration!

Curriculum Foci:

Math: Tangram investigations; semester 1 wrap-up

Social Studies: Globalization assessment

Language Arts: Glogster presentations and unit 2 relfection

Science: Wrapping up ecology and natural selection (catch-up day on Wednesday)

Permission Slip: your student will be bringing home a permission slip TODAY to allow him/her to watch a the movie, Elf, the day before winter break. Please sign and return the permission slip as soon as possible.

Math: scale factor and similar shapes

Weekly Update 12/5-12/9

Important Information!!!

JINGLEBIRD is here!! This Wednesday 12/7, students will be participating in a wellness walk-a-thon. All pledges are due TOMORROW!!! Please help support our school in this once-a-year fundraiser! All kids should dress for the weather – we will be outside walking on the track for 45 minutes. Then, we will participate in educational and physical stations. It should be a great day and we hope to raise a lot of money for CBMS!

Spelling Bee – students who want to take part need to go to Mrs. Stoddard’s cottage (65) this FRIDAY 12/9 at LUNCH to take the 40 word qualifying quiz! GOOD LUCK!

Curriculum Foci:

Language Arts – expository writing; synthesizing our research

Social Studies – finishing up Legacy of War unit (assessment tomorrow); beginning globalization unit.

Math – review ratios, proportions, and expressions

Science – biomes, food chains, food webs
