Assignments:

November:     Planning for a wonderful Winter concert

ALL 8th graders are preparing for LISA auditions that will be held on Dec. 10th.  IF they are not auditioning for LISA, then they will audition for the HS Music program in January shortly upon their return from winter break.  Both Mr. Arau, LHS and Mr. Toews, MVHS have come to visit with the students and discuss HS music and their prespective departments.  They were also readily available to answer questions concerning HS life.  I thank both of them for their time.  :-)

December 1, 2011:  Orchestra Festival at MVHS AND Band concert @ CBMS

Dec. 8, 2011:  Orchestra and Choir Concert @ CBMS

ALL INSTRUMENTAL STUDENTS should be turning in practice sheets weekly.  If they are not turned in during class time at the beginning, then they are considered late.  For this quarter, they are on a MINT GREEN sheet.  I do not deduct points for the sheet as I would prefer for the the students to write it down and turn it in.

7th & 8th graders should be documenting their practice time in minutes AND decimals.  This is a way that we are incorporating math into our curriculum and able to help the students with number sense.

Aug. 23-26:     All students receive music lockers, instruments (if needed).

Aug. 29-Sept. 2:      All students will be playing their instruments in class.  7/8th grade                                         have chair tests starting on Thursday for Band and Orchestra.  7/8th                                       graders have their first practice sheet due on Friday, Sept. 2.

Sept. 6-9:                 Finishing Chair Tests in upper grade level groups.  6th grade has their                                   first practice sheet due on Friday.  Upper grades are turning in their                                       second practice sheet.  Everyone is working on making their best                                             sound on their instruments while learning technical skills and                                                 applying them to music.

Sept. 12-16:             Students are working very hard for their concert coming up in October

Sept. 19-23:            Students will be finishing their second playing exams in all classes.

Sept. 26-30:           Students will be working on learning how to clean their instruments                                      and maintain them.  Vocal students are working on learning correct                                        singing and vocal health proceedures.

1.  All instrumental students should now have instruments and lockers in the music area. Students are expected to purchase their own book and supplies. The school does not supply these items.

2.  Students should have all instrument supplies by Tuesday, September 6th.

3.  7th and 8th grade students are now turning in practice sheets as part of their weekly grades. 7th & 8th graders are expected to practice 120 minutes per week for an A. 6th graders will be starting these after Labor Day and will be required to practice 1 hour per week.

4. Students are playing already in all classes.  PLEASE make sure your students have their book.  If you would like to purchase a used one, I have several at school for $3.00 a piece; percussion is $5.00 a piece.

5.   NO late assignments will be accepted after ONE WEEK late (unless a student has an excused absence).

6.   The 8th and 7th grade orchestra and band students will be playing their fall concert in October.  They are very prepared and have a special Halloween treat to share with the audience.
