Literacy/Social Studies Update

Hello everyone, Things continue to move along here at Conrad Ball. The Falcon students are doing a great job and are such fun to work with each day.
In Literacy we have continued to work on Spelling and Vocabulary and a variety of writing. Students are finishing up a Narrative piece that they are turning in for assessment this week. We will still work on Narrative writing but will be adding Expository writing as well. Students will be involved in a variety of reading and writing, including some small research projects.
In Social Studies we continue to focus on Geography skills but are also looking at thinking like an historian and the development of societies. Students are starting a Chronology/Timeline project that they may need some help on. Ask them to show you the pink sheet, Orange day students will get this Monday, Blue day received theirs today.
The pace of work, both in and out of class, is starting to pick up. Please check with your student regularly to see how they are doing as well as what they are learning and creating.
Please check with your student to be sure that they have and are bringing their flash-drive to school as we will be needing these on a regular basis now.

News from the District: Help the Arts

From the Thompson Education Foundation
Cultivating educational opportunities in the Thompson School District

Painting sponsorships to raise funds for the arts

Parents and community members will have an opportunity to sponsor a painting by the late Lu Haskew to be placed at their favorite school at a special fundraiser for the Thompson Education Foundation on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Café Vino, 426 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland.
Proceeds will be placed into an endowment to support the arts in the schools. Lu Haskew was an artist and former teacher in the Thompson School District. She passed away in 2009. Her son, Denny, a sculptor, has donated a framed painting for each school within the Thompson School District.
Patrons may sponsor a painting, much like bricks are sponsored for new facilities. One painting will be hung at each of Thompson’s schools (including current charters). The sponsor’s named will be included on a plaque that will also honor Lu and her son. The paintings and the schools they will go to will be displayed at the event.
Sponsorship of paintings, valued from $400-$4,000, is $500 for elementary schools; $750 for middle schools and $1000 for high schools. Cost of the event is $15, which includes a beverage and appetizers. For more information visit www.thetef.org. To RSVP, call 970-613-5074.

Mid Terms Are Here

Hello everyone, We have reached, actually passed, the midway point in the first quarter. Student mid term progress grades should be viewable on Infinite Campus. Most Falcons are doing a very good job and things are going well. Please do note that much of the grades up to this point have been participation points and things will be getting a bit tougher. That information has been shared with the students in class but a reminder from home would help as well. Next week our Fall Parent Teacher Conferences begin. Mr. Navidad will be contacting you, if he has not already, to schedule an appointment. Again conferences at CBMS will be Tuesday, Oct. 4th; Thursday, Oct. 6th and Tuesday, Oct. 11th. We look forward to seeing you one of those nights.

Good Morning!

Hello Falcon Parents, Just a quick note to pass on a few bits of information. Today most students will be receiving their CSAP data from testing last year. There are a few that we do not have due to being in another district last year. Please look for that to come home and ask your student about this. Family Facebook night will be Thursday, Sept. 29th. This will be a great opportunity to make some more connections with the Con Ball family and get information and resources to help your child be responsible and safe while using social media. Also Fall Conferences are approaching fast. Con Ball will be having conferences on the evenings of Tuesday, Oct. 4th, Thursday, Oct 6th, and Tuesday, Oct. 11th. Mr. Navidad will be contacting you soon to schedule a night and time, please check your calendars to see what works for you. Things are going well here at school and it is a delight to work with your children on a daily basis. Thank you for your support and trust.

Math and Science Update

Math is off to a great start. We have completed 2 full weeks of learning and we have shown great progress. Students have been working from the math textbook’s chapter 1. In there students have gained a better understanding of how to represent data and how to visualize math problems. As part of this class, students have homework 2-4 times a week. Please make sure you son/daughter is completing their homework by checking their agenda daily :) . Remember to use the class website to double check the HW assignment or to download the HW problems. Aside from our work in class, students took their first Acuity test today. Results from these test will help me tailor the class content to meet their needs.
In Science, students are learning the steps of the scientific method. We have been really focusing on making good scientific “Observations” using details and non-subjective words. Students will participate in a Observation lab that will require them to verbalize what they see. A dificult task that will help them gain a better understanding of how scientists view the world. In science, we will continue learning about the scintific method and will complete our first formal lab early next week.
Parents and students, please remember to use my class website to check your progress/grades/assignments.
Have a great Week – Mr. Navidad

Literacy/Social Studies/Team Update

Hello Everyone, We are moving fast through the third week of school and things are going well for the Falcon Teachers and students. There are still several who have not yet turned in the “Parent Survey”, Mr. Brown will be reminding students about these. Mr. Navidad will be communicating about upcoming Fall Conferences soon. The students have had “Get Acquainted” times with our counselor, Ms Clark, and Officer Ben, our School Resource Officer. Our first round of Acuity testing begins this week. Students are getting into the groove of school and we are all getting to know each other.
In Literacy, we have been looking at Story and Language, using Spelling/Vocabulary and Short Literature. We will begin our first novel this next week. In Social Studies we are investigating the Five Themes of Geography and using the 10th anniversary of 9/11 to look at changes in our country and world as well as how we view such events historically.
Thank You again for your support and trust in allowing us to work with your students.
