Western Academic Talent Search (WATS) enables academically talented students through 9th grade to take the ACT, SAT, or EXPLORE test at a earlier age so as to better evaluate their strengths, practice taking a more challenging test, compare scores with other high achieving students, qualify for summer or academic year opportunities and scholarships, and receive recognition of outstanding abilities. There is a fee of $75-$92 depending on the test. More information and test dates can be found at www.centerforbrightkids.org and Mrs. Stoddard has an application. Let her know if you are interested. The deadlines for the Nov. and Dec. tests are this month. There are also tests in Jan. and Feb with deadlines in Dec.
GT Students and Parents,
Tuesday, September 20 from 11:10-1:00 is the fun-filled fall picnic at Silver Glen Park. Bring a lunch with drink and any of your favorite park games. We will meet in Room 67 to walk over to Silver Glen park. See Mrs. Stoddard for a permisssion form.

All those interested in Mindstorms Lego Robotics or Vex Robotics come to an organizational meeting after school Thursday, Sept. 1 until 3:45. Parents are welcome to attend also. Parent support will be needed.
What a treat to see so many of you at Back-to-School Night! For those of you that weren’t here, we talked about a few of the changes.  There will not be any GT push in this year as I have three 7th grade math classes. One of which will be a combined advanced 7th grade and an eighth grade algebra class. If students have any concerns or need challenges, I will be in Room 67 or just email.
I will be meeting with each student during SSR for Advanced Learning Plans.  After you are familiar with your schedule, I will begin scheduling.
Parents, Conrad Ball is in need of help for Lego Robotics, Spelling Bee, and Chess Club.  If you have any passion in these areas (or not) and have time after school, sign up with me.
Great news Thunderbirds, you made good growth last year. We are going to continue that trend and have another great year! Onward Thunderbirds!
